Ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Electrician A without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and repair duties. I can perform preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment (circuits, instruments, meters, relays, gauges, carrier units, control systems, transformers, motors, and switch gear apparatus) at hydroelectric generating plants, dams, steam plants, nuclear plants or switchyard. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility To Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work)Knowledge of Electrical EquipmentTrouble shooting (electrical) PHYSICAL EFFORT Work tasks require that the incumbent be capable of rapid simultaneous mental and muscular coordination in conjunction with eye and hand coordination to operate switches and controls in accordance with meter indications. In order to perform the maintenance, inspection and operation of power station equipment the incumbent will lift and carry heave objects 45 pounds and over, climb and reach above the shoulders, stand, sit, crawl and kneel for prolonged periods of time and performs repeated bending. The incumbent must be able to utilize the power plant communications system, and to do so hearing and speech is necessary. In order that color codes be recognized the incumbent must have correctable vision and the ability to distinguish basic shades of colors. Operation of cranes, pickups and other motor vehicles is required. WORKING CONDITIONS The incumbent will work primarily inside around machinery in operation, in close proximity to high and low voltage circuits and climb stairs frequently. Sometimes work will be performed outside in weather of varying degree of temperature and humidity, in tight or cramped work spaces, on ladders or scaffolds and on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Occasionally the incumbent will use solvents or degreasing agents, be assigned to protracted or irregular hours of work, use both hands in water and be exposed to silica, asbestos, oil, grease, excessive noise, vibration, smoke and gas fumes. Personal protective safety devices will be supplied to the worker when in an area of hazardous exposure. Examples of devices are hard hats, safety shoes, safety goggles and glasses , fresh air breathing masks, gloves, dust and smoke respirators, ear muffs, insulated gloves and safety grounds. The incumbent, when in an area of hazardous exposure, will wear the appropriate personal safety device.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
